The Originality.ai MCP Server lets AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude check text for likely AI-generated content directly from a conversation.

Once connected, you can paste text into a chat, choose an AI allowance or use our multi language model for non-English text, and receive an Originality.ai result without switching applications. Results include the classification, confidence, AI and human scores, and a link to the complete scan in Originality.ai.

What is an MCP Server?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard that allows AI applications to connect to external services and tools.

In simple terms:

You → your AI assistant → Originality.ai MCP Server → Originality.ai

The AI assistant decides when an Originality.ai tool is useful, sends an authorized request to the MCP server, and uses the result in your conversation.You remain signed in as yourself. Access is limited to your Originality.ai account and the permissions you approve. Scan availability and credit usage depend on your account.

Available tools

The Originality.ai MCP Server currently provides a single AI detection tool with two available models:

• Originality.ai 5.0 scan (ai_scan_5_0) - Runs an AI detection scan using either the Originality.ai 5.0 or Originality.ai 5.0 Max model. Simply specify your preferred model when requesting an AI scan of your text.

You normally do not need to select the tool yourself. Ask your AI assistant in normal conversational language in a way that would make sense for the appropriate tool(s) to be chosen. Successful results include a link to the full scan in Originality.ai. 

The interactive result card

Originality.ai scan tools can display an interactive result card directly inside ChatGPT and Claude. The card includes:

• Whether the text falls within or exceeds the selected AI allowance
• The AI and human-written score split
• The confidence level
• The selected AI allowance (for AI Allowance scans)
• The word length and time of scan
• A link to the completed scan in Originality.ai 

The interactive result card is currently supported and tested with ChatGPT and Claude.

The underlying MCP tools are separate from the card. Another MCP client may still be able to run Originality.ai scans even if it cannot display the same interface.
